The course lasts for 5 days and includes the following:

  • Instructor Led Tuition
  • Individual exercises
  • Group exercises
  • Case Study
  • Delegate Pack

Prince 2™ Practitioner Course Objective

On completion of the course the delegate will have:

  • Defined a project
  • Distinguished between the Components, Processes and Techniques used in PRINCE2
  • Identified the terminology used in PRINCE2
  • Applied PRINCE2 to a given scenario
  • Sat the PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner examinations

Suitable For

The event is recommended for practicing project managers who are responsible for managing projects using PRINCE2, or considering using PRINCE2 for their next project.

Examination and Certification

This level aims to measure whether a candidate would be able to apply PRINCE2 to the running and managing of a project within an environment supporting PRINCE2. To this end they need to exhibit the competence required for the Foundation qualification, and show that they can apply and tune PRINCE2 to address the needs and problems of a specific project scenario, specifically, candidates must be able to:

  • Produce detailed explanations of all processes, components and techniques, and worked examples of all PRINCE2 products as they might be applied to address the particular circumstances of a given project scenario
  • Show they understand the relationships between processes, components, techniques and PRINCE2 products and can apply this understanding
  • Demonstrate that they understand the reasons behind the processes, components and techniques of PRINCE2, and that they understand the principles underpinning these elements
  • Demonstrate their ability to tune PRINCE2 to different project circumstances

Delegates who pass the Practitioner examination are awarded the qualification of "Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner". The certificate is an internationally recognized qualification in PRINCE 2.

As of 1st of September 2007 the format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam has changed and open-ended essay style questions have been replaced by objective testing questions.

The exam is:

  • Nine questions (selected from 9 of the 11 topics in the syllabus), with a scenario background and appendices
  • Each of the 9 questions is worth 40 marks, but there will be negative marking for incorrect answers
  • An overall score of 180 out of a possible 360 is required to pass
  • Three hour duration
  • Open-book examination (only the PRINCE2 Manual is allowed)

The new exam is most definitely not easier than the old exam. The APMG believe that the new style of exam will offer the following benefits

  • A significant reduction in delivering results to candidates
  • Increased consistency of marking
  • Easier for those unused to writing for extended periods of time
  • Candidates who suffer from dyslexia may find the objective testing style more acceptable to their condition
  • The format is more acceptable to international candidates who are not used to essay based examinations
  • Candidates with English as their second language could benefit from the change in style as less writing is involved and therefore more empahasis based on comprehension of the question
  • The format allows candidates to show their comprehension of PRINCE2 without having to worry about handwriting, grammar and spelling whilst taking the examination
  • The examination is able to test a wider area of the syllabus, thus ensuring a thorough comprehension throughout PRINCE 2
